The Little Giraffe Foundation is dedicated to supporting neonatal research and helping the parents and patients of the NICU. Here are our most recent accomplishments.

Little Giraffe Foundation Acknowledged in First Medical Journal Article!
February 2013 - Dr. Amir Lahav's research group, affiliated with Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, was the recipient of one of Little Giraffe Foundation's 2012 Neonatal Research Grants. The grant funding was used for research to examine the effects of biological maternal sounds (BMS) on weight gain velocity in very low-birth-weight infants (< 1,500 g). The results revealed that infants receiving BMS significantly improved their weight gain velocity compared matched controls. Further research will be needed to evaluate the effectiveness of this noninvasive intervention during the neonatal period.
Since Little Giraffe Foundation contributed to the funding to further this research, our organization was aknowledged in the newly released publication. Please take a look at the full article to see the great research that has been done!
We want to sincerely thank all of our supports who have made it possible for Little Giraffe Foundation to offer such research grants! These grants allow us to support great research that reveals new technologies in medicine. Every step, small or monumental, will to improve the quality of life for preemies during their stay in the NICU and throughout their lives. Thank you!!!
Thanksgiving Donation Reaches Over 200 Families!
November 2012 - Six Chicagoland hospitals received Thanksgiving packages from the Little Giraffe Foundation for the families they are currently serving in their NICU's. This amounted to over 200 families receiving books themed about being thankful. These families are going through a very tough time in their lives and the messages in these books can help to remind them that there is someone thinking of them and to encourage them to think of the positive things in their lives despite their very difficult circumstances. We have received many positive notes back from the hospitals regarding our holiday NICU packages over the past 18 months and are looking to donate to up to 8 hospitals for Christmas! With your help we can continue to extend our reach to families who need a cheerful gift from someone outside of the hospital walls!
Donations were made to the four hospitals pictured below as well as Rush University Medical Center - Chicago, IL and Advocate Hope Children's Hospital - Oak Lawn, IL.
Advocate Lutheran General Hospital - Park Ridge, IL
Edward Hospital - Naperville, IL
St. Alexius Medical Center - Hoffman Estates, IL
NorthShore Evanston Hospital - Evanston, IL

Little Giraffe Foundation Funds Book Donation to Lutheran General NICU Families
April 24, 2011 - Today Cheyenne took her first steps. The Little Giraffe Foundation made its first impact with a donation of over 50 board books and a cash contribution of $100. The money will go to fund the materials for the NICU Easter/Spring gift bag and each family will receive a nice board book. It's important for NICU patients to hear their parent's voices, but sometimes it's nice to have a little help when you run out of things to say. We selected Goodnight Moon, Guess How Much I Love You, Brown Bear What Do You See? (English and Spanish), and Elmer's Friends - a children's book for Arabic and Polish speakers.
Thank you to everyone who donated. This would not have been possible without your contributions!
Little Giraffe Foundation Reaches $7,500 in Donations to Support Neonatal Research
April 15, 2011 - Today we reached $7,500 in total donations, putting us 75% toward our goal of $10,000 by the end of the month. Once we raise money in excess of $10,000 we graduate to an organization that can fund meaningful research. We are actively working to partner with the March of Dimes on several of their initiatives focusing on nephrology as well with the Vermont Oxford Network, a group dedicated to bringing together NICUs from across the world to share information and implement best practices.
One of the missions of the Little Giraffe Foundation is to support families with babies in the NICU. During the holidays, we offer gift bags that include books and toys to let them know someone is thinking of them. Since our foundation's inception, we have delivered over 9,500 of these such gifts to several Chicagoland hospitals. For the upcoming holiday season we will be reaching 13 local area hospitals.
